The seeds are relatively big for cacti and actually pretty quick to get started in my experience. Maybe plants in pots are much slower to bloom than plants in the ground, I'm guessing....

Let's sort out those mistaken IDs then if you don't mind. Are you thinking of any picture in particular beyond this plant?



Do you agree that this plant should be filed under Oreocereus?
