Elemental sulfur is a longer term, but still a temporary fix. It acidifies soil by producing sulfuric acid as it is acted upon in the soil. But sulfuric acid, like vinegar, is mobile in the soil and and "disappears" with time. However, sulfur degrades slowly, especially with larger size granules, so the effect is slower and over a longer period.
