Cindy, I will keep the lilies I deem worthy of keeping. But they get 3 years of blooming before I will make that decision. Unless it is a really horrible lily. Up until the first blooms, you never know what it will look like, and they can vary a lot from one seed to the next.
@gardenglassgems, I start all my lily seeds in Pro-mix BX with mychorrizae. Slightly dampened and in the dark. Once germination is evident, I put them under grow lights until I get tlme to transplant into pots. Once the weather gets nice they go outside. Oriental and some species type lilies seed starting is different. I start those in August in slightly damp vermiculite. Again in the dark for 3 months of warm. Then they go into the fridge at just above freezing for 3-4 months. Then get potted and under lights. These seed on the first 3 months are forming a bulb and small root system. They need the cold to break dormancy and put up foliage.
The ones I have in the baggies in the picture are asiatics, trumpets, and OTs which don't need a cold cycle at all.
