ED;Most of winter crops are planted late August- early September. I start the transplants in dimple shade seedbeds around the first of Augusta ( Cabbage(both standard and Chinese), cauliflower, collards, broccoli) transplant as I turn under summer crops in September. Rutabagas direct seed in late August. Weather was uncooperative this year so they are still much smaller than I like. Still taste good tho. Radishes (salad and winter) direct seed in September along with turnips and mustard. Carrots I direct seed in early September. These you can seed up till about the middle of October You can also do kale and spinach, but I don't particularly like kale and I prefer spinach in a early spring planting. Most of these in a normal year will produce fresh food until they bolt in February. I planted English peas Thanksgiving, about 2inches tall now. Onions transplanted mid December. February 1 I will start cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli , lettuce Romaine and Bibb) in a cold frame. Around Valentines I will plant Irish potatoes. By March I will be planting full time.
