This is one of my saddest regrets. WHY did I only buy just ONE?
Years ago I made a large purchase of unusual palm trees from Hawaii. I did a lot of research and selected ones that I thought would stay the smallest, but be the most interesting as to leaf structure and whatnot, they are mostly rainforest understory palms, that I could have in my greenhouse. I didn't pay particular attention to their reproductive habits.
One of those palms is Chamaedorea oblongata. I would encourage you to Google it, its a cool palm.
It is a solitary palm (does not clump) that gets a really, REALLY tall lovely thin trunk as it grows, having its beautiful fronds coming out at the very top. Mine is about 12 feet tall now.

But its dioecious. That means plants are either male, or female. They don't produce male and female flowers on different blooms on the same palm. So unless you have 2 of different sex, there is no hope of getting fertile seeds. This is why they plant so many Chamaedorea elegans (parlor palms) in the same pot. So you get different sexes and get fertile seeds.

Mine is blooming now. But its sterile. This is its lovely bloom coming out. But its destined to be lonely forever unless I can get s few more and at least one different sex. I'm going to ave to make a trip to South Florida someday, sigh, to find it a mate. LESSON: never just buy ONE
