None of that sounds odd to me. Lots of plants have a wide range of tolerance. I can "dry" garden water chestnuts until about late July - early August. They change their appearance, and they won't propagate as well, but they will survive on land.
I toss cuttings into my outdoor pond all the time. If they take, I plant them. If they don't, oh well.
