I use EB stone too and I like it much better than Miracle Gro which is too moisture retentive. I do add more pumice to it when I use EB stone aside from what it already has. So I also have a big bag of pumice here, I just mix it into the cacti mix and then use it as well as top dressing. Since I do not fertilize, I just add as well some compost to the mix. That is what my soil is typically for my succulents here. It helps a lot during our wet winters, it makes faster drain out of excess water.

In itself you can use just the cacti mix, but I find still it takes a bit longer to dry out during the cold season and if soil is exposed at the surface, the base of the plant gets easily soggy. Then I have observed as well, when I repot next time, the media remains quite open, not compacted, so to me it makes me reassured the succulent roots are getting good airflow at the root zone. The pumice top dressing also helps during the hot season, since my location is inland, it gets way too hot, adding pumice aids in air flow and top dressing helps somehow in cooling down the soil below as I water more frequently too during the long dry period.

Perlite is also good to use , but I find it much lighter, a bit dustier while pumice is heavier, more solid feel so it won't float away.
