A friend posted on Facebook "Waiting on a hurricane is like being stalked by a turtle".

We just look at the threat of a major hurricane - even if it turns away - as a rehearsal, so we know what we need to do, and we test the generator, the gas sump pump and check on all our supplies so we feel like we can be ready more easily IF a storm does come our way. Moving all the plants to safe places is my big job, but after Irma I know where the good spots are, and my big clump of bamboo is great for most of the big pots as it's about 2ft from the wall of our shop. I can slide all the big plants in there and they are protected from most of the rain and wind.

If you had a few hours warning before a major earthquake, you'd have a chance to put your breakable stuff on the floor and to get to a safe place, too right?
