Morgan, I need a close up lens! Is it something you bought to attach to your regular camera? You are taking such amazing photos! Thumbs up

I'm using this one that I got for about $60
Raynox DCR-150 Snap-On Macro Lens
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007KS7D0/

It needs a camera that has threads on the end of the lens that it can either screw into or grip with the spring loaded adapter. It acts like a magnifying glass. With the zoom cameras the more you zoom in the greater the magnification it has. The downside is though that the greater the magnification, the shallower the depth of field. When you're using the greatest zoom or magnification that may mean a depth of field of only a few millimeters. So you normally have to set the camera in aperture priority mode and set that F-stop very high, which means you need a lot more light, so you have to use the flash too. You have to keep the lens about 8" (200mm) away from the subject. Trying to keep it the correct distance away and locking focus is tricky when shooting a living thing and hand-holding the camera! If you use a lesser amount of zoom it is a bit easier to get more depth of field and lock focus though.

So it does take a bit of practice, but once you get a good image of something teeny tiny, it is pretty satisfying! I only use the lens for very small things (under 1-2cm), that aren't moving around much at all. If it's something I want to be sure to get a picture of, I take some pics without using the lens first, just to be sure I get something usable.

It works pretty well with my current camera, a Panasonic FZ200. After six years the camera is starting to have some issues though. I'll probably be replacing it soon with a FZ300, which has a lot of cool improvements but is the same price!

A lot of the people on iNat that use their cell phones get good results using little snap-on macro lenses that clip onto the phone too.
