This particular American Elm stood just across the street from the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City when [on April 19, 1995] it was severely damaged during the Murrah Building bombing.
Exceptional care by the National Park Service allowed this tree to survive and prosper in the years since.
Hundreds of seeds from this tree are planted each year. The resulting saplings are distributed nation wide on each anniversary of the bombing.
