The active ingredient in original Listerine is thymol. New Listerine is alcohol free and alcohol is needed to kill germs and disinfect cuts and injures on leaves.
I have found the same stuff in Dollar Store cheap mouth wash. I use the mint type because I like the smell. I use it full strength in a spray bottle, but don't over do it. Once is mostly enough.
