I've grown this lily for a long time. It has performed well in several garden locations including sandy loam in full sun, as well as light shade. Like any perennial it does best if kept watered during peak bloom, and mulch is beneficial. But,
never plant where drainage is poor. It will kill them. The big plus for me is that it goes through some of the worst possible winter weather without harm. It has withstood -21F over several years, the most recent being -24F on Jan. 16, 2009!
I can't remember where I bought the bulbs. I'm thinking White's Flower Farm or possibly The Lily Garden. I do not see them listed at either place, as they are likely updating their web sites for spring 2020. Some pictures:
