I don't know if it's true, or not, but I heard (years ago) that illegal orchids found a home at the San Diego Zoo orchid house. I was a member for years, but never went to the "orchid house". Ca. probably has as many plants smuggled in to the USA as the east coast, and we do have check points between states, but our focus is more on illegal aliens than plants, and if you look respectable, they trust you when moving from state to state. That is probably how those insect carried diseases travel from Fl. to Ca.
Considering what's happening right now, and politics aside, there is no way for total control. The best option (in my opinion) is education. We're all about Technology training these days, but like all the ways to make money, that will tank in the job market at some point. We need to get back to the sciences ,including Earth sciences.

Ok, that's my rant for the day.
