I overwintered my water lilies by leaving them outside in big rubbermaid tubs. I'm really amazed that the tubs didn't crack when I had ice on the top for a few days. They are just those 18 gallon $5 tubs made for storing decorations and such. The water lilies have already sent new leaves up to the top!
