I don't know if you are planning on having koi, but the deeper, the better. Apparently koi use different muscles to swim from top to bottom, than they do to swim horizontally along a straight plane. This goes a long way to keeping them fit and thus healthier. How big do you plan on your pond to be?

Chelle - how deep is your pond? I have heard that Racccoons can cause quite a mess....
