This year I experienced it all.
1. Two very unlikely parents, I'm sure no one ever crossed, filling my garden with very nice 8-month-old plants.
2. Several new expensive daylilies proclaimed as rust-resistant, that got rust quickly;
3. New inexpensive old varieties that beat expensive new varieties.
Below is an example of one of the new blooms from the unlikely cross. This is one seedling's first bloom (bloomed today). The seeds from the cross were planted last fall.
This young plant is rust-resistant with multiple fans, a common characteristic of plants from this cross.
One parent is pink; the other yellow. The cross is producing plants with yellow, mauve or pink blooms.
