Guess I'll check the hardware or feed store and see what doohickies they have that can keep those things closed. This time of year the female birds need the suet because they'll be nesting...and maybe other kinds of wildlife need it, too....but they'll have to share it.

You'll probably lose the whole thing. I've lost seed cages, suet cages and suet feeders, including the food inside them.

I started using a plastic coated twist tie to keep the seed cake inside the cage, but I started to lose the cake and the feeder, so I quit using the twist tie and just lost the seed cake and the cage was left.

Every morning I look outside and see the new suet cake gone, so I stopped putting out suet cakes (for now). We're short on cash right now and it kills me to put a fresh cake out in the morning and have to put another fresh cake out the next morning. There is still suet cake available right when it gets dark, so I know the birds aren't eating it up till it's gone.

We have peanut feeder and a sunflower feeder, which are both the squirrel buster brand and I don't have any problems with those.
Welcome to the Agastache and Salvias Forum!

Hummingbirds are beautiful flying jewels in the garden!
