Dear Lucy, I do not find it strange that Sarah who looks after the front garden, plants her spring stuff there. We did have two beautiful and old wire hanging baskets that Sarah filled with moss and then planted Iris, Crocus, dwarf Tulips, Pansies and Polyanthus, in them. However mothering Sunday is normally the 3rd Sunday in March. The display she had that year was magnificent until she came home from work on the Friday night and the baskets had been stolen! No doubt some mother thought that was a nice gift from her son/daughter.
So I raised the height of the brackets to hold them up and got these super tough self watering ones for her. Then using metal (industrial) cable ties I locked them on to the brackets. Now it would be difficult and time consuming to steal them. The containers are also concreted in to the ground for the same reason. The only problem we now get is squirrels, but Phoenix and I can sort them out!
Regards.
Neil.
