Small sips of water versus watering until it drains out the bottom-

I wonder that with watering until it drains out the bottom, we may also be helping by forcing gases out of the pore space, and pulling fresh air down into the soil as the water drops and sucks... if you follow me. With sips, no great gas exchange. Do you think there's anything to this? I read some reference to this effect with soil in the ground, and rainfall.
