The single bulb garlic we just called solo and it was harvested last year from the clove we had planted from our own garlic we plant every year. We got three single bulbs. This year we planted these single bulbs and surprisingly they all produced divided bulbs when we harvested this year. We have been told that sometimes a single bulb will form if the growing climate is too warm. We have been growing garlic in a 4b zone for 20 years and this was a first for us.
The other interesting thing is we decided not to remove the scape that is formed in June ( and usually removed to allow a better bulb to form) and this particular garlic produced a larger divided bulb.
So go figure???
