Hi friends. I haven't posted in quite a while because I haven't been gardening until this year again.
I have an 8 x 12 inexpensive greenhouse. In Central Texas we only get 12-15 freezes usually - but it can be enough to drop the temp too much in the greenhouse. I'm not gardening as heavily in there in the winter, but overwintering a few things - and growing some lettuce, chard, starting some dwarf bok choy etc. On really cold nights I may turn the heater on low - but I don't have enough growing this year to justify big heat expense. I have some heat mats I'm using for the starter plants.
QUESTION: Thinking if I put some lengths of regular heavy weight clear plastic along the walls (and maybe try to roll it up during the day) - that would help create another layer of insulation along the walls? Maybe use PVC pipe or something to anchor the bottom ? Trying to come up with a creative idea that makes it easy to raise during the day. Since the plastic is not "greenhouse plastic" I'm assuming the sun coming thru in the daytime could burn the plants ? Most of them are at least 6-8 inches away from the wall. If that's not a problem, then I could just leave the plastic "liner" on the walls until spring when it really begins to heat up more ? Thoughts appreciated.
