Zoia I just pull the mulch back and add pellets, meal, Milorganite and Osmocote type long lasting enrichment. No problems with rabbits or the tree rat messing around the plants for the most part.
@KaMae8 there are some great hybridizers in Wisconsin. Ed Burton aka "Gramps" here and on the lily auction, Philip Korth among others. Look through Charlottes Diary to find the local people by you. daylilydiary.com
There are also a lot of great hybridizers and backyard gardeners in the north. Don't forget the classified here for some of the best deals.
