This is a reply to a very old post and I apologize if I'm repeating anyone.
I can't find anything in the AHS database entry for 'Variegated Kwanso' about its origin. It does not say it arose from the other two.
Bob, your assumption about the origin of 'Variegated Kwanso' is the same as the taxonomists' - it was a sport from 'Green Kwanso'. It is unstable, though, and the plain green can be produced by reversions from the variegated one.
Maintaining a variegated clump requires occasionally culling out the plain green ones. Not too hard to do since the "clumps" are very loose at first because of the rhizomatous nature of the increase fans.
