Alex, so sorry they did not take care of your plants. It is really hard with small children. When my boys were small 2&3, I tried to keep a lemon and orange tree watered with drip, my boys loved pulling it out and running it as a river. They also gathered leaves, flowers and etc. for "salad." Yes, I worked with them on what they could use and what to leave alone, but they did not always remember or got caught in the moment. I did leave the yard better than I got it, but it wasn't easy.
