If it has been warmer and drier than usual watering once a week is not enough. Everything I have heard from people who grow these Aloes successfully (ie. to 2-3 ft across and flowering) say that if it is warm/hot and the plant is seeing lots of sun, it needs to be watered a lot. Some people in the Santa Rosa region water daily when it is hot there.
It is what it is!
