Looks like this was cutting grown instead of seed grown and the roots have developed into huge roots.
If you have the cuttings you can try to grow the big cuttings for flowers and they could produce seedpods for you as well. And they will bloom ahead of the mother plant. I find the cuttings harder to root but I will keep trying.
I will keep trying and if successful, I can train the roots of the cuttings later on to give me interesting collection of desert roses for flowers and seedpod collection and to give away as gifts like my plumeria collection.
