I have a 25 yr old African milk plant. I once left it in my unheated sunroom over the winter and I almost killed it. It kinda looked like yours. They don't like cold. Im in Canada. It might be too cold in your garage. Or you may be over watering.
I take mine out every summer (under a porch) and bring it inside in the fall. It sits in a south facing window all winter.
