(Better to refrigerate a ripe tomato than let it get over-ripe, but let it come back to room temperature before using.)

But as far as tomatoes outside in colder weather - I wouldn't get very many tomatoes if the temp dropping to 45° would ruin them; as long as they don't get frosted or frozen, and warm up later on in the day, they do fine.
