Yes, the trees are bald cypress which grow along the banks of the Guadalupe River. The contest photo was taken from a bridge in Waring, Texas.
Hiking and taking photos along the rivers and streams is one of my favorite activities. The cypress trees are especially beautiful during the fall when the needles turn red.

In this area of Texas, the cypress don't form "knees" like they do in Louisiana. But the root systems can be spectacular on these massive trees.
