@Intheswamp, I apologize because I was a little salty after reading a different article on this site right before I saw this post. There was more old curmudgeon rant about inappropriate urban plantings than necessary. But I won't take it back. While it is always easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission, you just don't know what you don't know. @purpleinopp, I came really close to doing exactly what you are pondering not long after the big derecho a couple of years ago. My young neighbor went out first, and simply cleaned up storm damage. While he was at it, he picked up the broken fence posts and rusty barbed wire from the border with the field behind our houses. (Where I was contemplating a wildflower meadow...) Then my neighbor got chewed out by some local officials for doing what he'd done, and I got mad. I'm not bashful, so I tracked the guy down and bawled him out for getting after my neighbor. Turns out that field is a Brownfield zone. My neighbor was out there in shorts and a hoodie, and that was the bigger issue. Plus, the official was a little bit salty because he didn't have it in his budget to replace the fence. Long story short, I'm so glad I did not create an attractive nuisance back there. What if some little kid got sick getting into something while picking those flowers?
