The Colocasia esculenta is actually an edible (taro root), popular in Malaysia and other South East Asia countries. It CANNOT be eaten raw, but once cooked is edible. Between this and your ginger, you have the beginnings of a survival yard! Rolling on the floor laughing Kidding aside, they are pretty plants and I've never seen deer, squirrels or rabbits mess with them. After observing neighbors' plants, they survive here without babying. I bought 3 this year to plant out in the yard.
