Hello.

I am hoping someone might be able to help me with my cactus problem. My two cacti are dying and I do not know how to remedy (if possible) this situation.

A little background about this cactus...I have had this cactus for over five years now. It has been doing OK for these past years. I was keeping it in a room which it did not receive any natural sunlight at all and it was becoming limp.

After sometime, I moved the cactus to a more well-lit room in which it started to receive some natural light and it then once again became strong and firm again.

About a month and a half ago, it started to become limp again and so I looked up on the net on what the possible causes could be. I read somewhere that it might be due to lack of water. So, I ran the pot under some water in my sink for a few seconds and put it back.

Two days later, almost the whole stem on both cacti turned white except for the top portions which were still green. They really started to sag and limp over so I decided to get two wooden chopsticks and tied rubber bands around them to help prop them up. I then read that the water needs to evaporate from the cacti so I put it in my room which faces the easterly rising sun where hopefully the water would evaporate quicker.

Well, after about three weeks of this the base of the cacti seemed to become very hard and turned black/brownish. The whole part that is still white also turned very hard except for the green part which is still soft to the touch.

Does anybody know if this cacti can be saved or not? If so, what are your suggestions to make it better?

Thank you and I do appreciate it.
