I agree

Years ago a friend helped me with a special recipe how to plant the miniature ones: find a perfect group setting! He called it 'the king and his court'. First I choose a star cultivar (sometimes its a queen or just a princess) and then I add others that help and support the star for his perfect appearance.

Usually the color is the link between the plants - e.g. Open My Eyes is the King, the court consists of Night Wings, Madge Cayse, Rolling Raven, Jan's Twister, Bertie Ferris and Black Pearl - they should be grouped around the king, the ones with the lower scapes before and the higher ones behind.

If you decide that a mini is your star you have to add others that support it. This works well in mixed borders where companion plants separate this daylily groups from each other.

This is another idea: in one border I've planted a diagonal 'band' of near black and near white daylilies from the smallest/lowest to the biggest/highest - there are only black and white companion plants planted in addition (some have near black leaves). This band starts with Little Miss Manners and Brookwood Black Kitten, followed by Witch's Thimble and Black Velvet Baby and finally ends with Heavenly Angel Ice, Egyptian Queen and Black Ice.
