It is a male House Finch.
Purple Finch males and House Finch males are easily, and, often confused with one another.
Purple Finch males are slightly heavier or more chubby if you will. They lack the strong streaking or stripes on the breast. The red color of the Purple Finch male is more of a raspberry red. There is a soft purple or raspberry tone to it. The closer the bird is to nesting, like a breeding bird, the red becomes more intense.
The bird in question is a more slender bird. The red is more of a Cardinal red or fire engine red. The brownish streaking on the breast and flanks is very noticeable on the male House Finch no matter what the season.
Since both species have a strong preference for nesting in evergreens, we find nothing there in terms of helping us to sort them out. However, Purple Finch generally prefer climates further north. They like cooler or colder weather.
At my feeders here in SE Michigan, the Purple Finches are here most often from late October through mid March or so. I don't see them at all as the seasons warm.
But keep in mind that some of these differences are kind of subtle thereby causing constant confusion.
