Sorry for the late reply, my Tillandsia tectorum stays outdoors year round. Currently it is positioned by the southwest facing area, but we do have the canopy of city trees protecting the garden during the long hot and dry months. In the morning it still is under the shadow of our house up to 11 am.
I always mist them everyday once the Spring rains stop, no choice, it stops way too early here. I just do it early in the day, making sure they are misted, and drenched very wet, since it will be quite a long dry day.
Our winters are generally mild, just the occasional dip down to 28F-29F in January..but this is not always like that. At most lowest range is 30F to 32F. Daytime temps may be from 45F to 60F. The heat released by the house at night, I think also helps the plant, so it is by the side of our house always. At this period, it is in Mother Nature's hand to provide its needed moisture, so if we get rains..well and good...or it is also the time we get rolling fogs here.
All of my other types of Tillandsias are overwintered indoors, they cannot endure our winter outdoors. Only Tillandsia tectorum endures our winter here outdoors nicely.
