I have a new Phragmipedium to share with everyone. This is Phragmipedium Don Wimber var. flavacolor.
Phragmipedium Don Wimber is Phrag. Eric Young x Phragmipedium besseae. I think the the color kind of shows true here, it is kind of the color of salmon or maybe a peachy color but it is bright and easily captures one's attention.
I was hoping for a bit extra with the "flavacolor" varietal name but I do not see anything outstanding. If you were to look at Don Wimber images, you would find medium orange flowers, dark orange, reds, darker reds. All of that depends upon which besseae was used and what color was it? There are dark red besseae's, orange ones as well as a yellow clone.
Eric Young comes in several shades of orange, peachy and red as well. However it is a medium sized single growth plant with a strong inflorescence. The flower measures a full 10 centimeters wide! That is 4" for the metrically challenged like ME!!!
She is grown under lights using the media/sphagnum/media method. Dubbed by me as my "Oreo method"!
