I fall back on the white plastic bags from supermarkets. I fold & bunch one up so I can cut a circular band with just 1-2 scissor cuts. Each bag yields 4-6 circles, a few inches wide.

Usually I loop the white circle around a stem so it is supported by two thicknesses, and two loops stick out. I tie one string through the two loops, and tie that string to some support.

One lady had a fancy scheme that eliminated the string: she could wind the loops through mesh, then "pin" them with a short length of stick. Takes too much cordination for me!

They always look at me funny, in Fred Meyer, when I search for triple-extra-large knee-high nylons, but they make it much easier to pull on heavy-duty thrombosis compression stockings. I always imagine that they think I'm just pretnding to shop, but actually ogling the models on the packages.
