I'm a Gardener Specialist at Cal Poly Pomona and I have a problem with long pine needles (Canary Island Pine) and seeing as Long-leaf pines are native to your area, I think you might have more experience dealing with them. What I'm looking for is ideas for plants that will grow under them that can handle the load of needles on them or allow the needles to fall through them. Barring that, some ideas for ease of removal. I'm still trying to convince my co-workers to use the needles for mulch, but not having much success.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
