Well, the eager beaver has gifted me with a bloom this morning. It was fully open before 5:30 a.m. I did not get home from work last night till after 9:30, wish I had run downstairs to the grow room at that point so I could tell whether it opened late yesterday / during the night (nocturnal) or EMO.
Despite having pod and pollen parents both in the pink range, this one is a mid-pale yellow with a touch of butterscotch, and has a very green throat. It also is not quite 3-inches ... so, not sure whether it will stay that small, ie, miniature (once it is planted into the gardens) or the bloom is undersize due to growing conditions (16-oz cup and a very quick arrival, scarcely 3 months' time).
Petals have a slight ruffle and sepals curve under. The yellow is stronger near the throat and softens towards the edges (almost looks like a darker yellow eye pattern, when viewed closely); there's just a slight hint of pink or caramel at the ruffled edge, and on the underside of petals and sepals.
In any case, I will keep an eye on this one. It has not only decided to bloom very quickly, but it has about eight leaves already and seems to be starting more at the base. Would be very nice if it multiplies as quickly as it germinates and grows.
(Apologies for poor lighting, it's an overcast, rainy day - not much I can do about that.)
