@lovetogarden1 Picture is not clear enough to see well, but I'd guess Juniperus communis - common juniper, one of the most widely distributed trees on earth - but can't disagree with J virginiana. Odds are very high it's one of the two.

I get volunteers of J communis popping up in my yard all the time. I grafted a J horizontalis to a volunteer communis that happened to be growing in an appropriate spot and eventually made a comma of it:

Good luck with your bonsai. If you think about it, come back and show us pictures of it's progress. Is your pot plastic or ceramic. Does it have 1 or 2 drain holes? I'll have some growing tips for you if you reply. I have many junipers growing as bonsai.
