In Germany they have a Kohlrabi which is actually a Wilhelmsburger Rutabaga, and they are often used as livestock feed. During WW2, they were used in a soup to feed POW's. I have to admit that cows and pigs like them, but one bite was enough for me! The regular kind are really good raw though. I have grown the Kossaks and they can become quite large. I always tried to plant mine later in the season so they matured later in the fall when nights are cool. The early ones can be hot, but the later ones are much sweeter, much like radishes and turnips. The word "Kohl" actually means "cool" in English, and refers to most of the cabbage family. Cole slaw!
