cjlong3, I would take it with a grain of salt. There are tons of different ways to grow Phalaenopsis! One them is in Sphagnum, with special waterings. It seems to work well for some people.
My way of growing Phals is totally on the other end of the spectrum, my growing area lets me grow them pretty much bare root, facing forwards to downwards ( so water doesn't collect in the crown) and spray with rain water daily. Surely others might shake their head and have a much better method suitable for their environment or longer life for their plant.

I should mention, I kill Phals packed in Sphagnum.😄
