Here's my guess. I only reread the first post. ..and second.
He described packing the roots and moss in pretty tight, leave 3/4 inch below rim of pot. So I think you could pour water on and fill that 3/4" because it won't run right through the way it would with bark. I guess it could gradually absorb. Shrug!
Plant it and they will come.
