Thank goodness daylilies are resilient! Earlier this year, I planted 3 dozen dl's in the front yard to complete some new landscaping (after a very kind gentleman that I do business with agreed to dig and send in his off-season). 3 weeks later, after they had transitioned and were sending out new growth, we asked the gardener to mulch that area. Well.. instead of using the aged shavings/manure that has broken down to mulch over the past 12-18 months, we discovered the hard way that, not only did he use fresh, urine-soaked shavings and hot horse manure, but he buried everything approximately 15-18" deep. By the time we found all of the dl's (that was a nasty job), they were either roots with black slime or burnt to a crisp. We re-potted all of it and put them in the greenhouse and, remarkably, everyone survived and are finally looking lush again.

So... hopefully your daylilies will be fine but I absolutely understand why you are upset. Did you contact the seller to let them know??
