I do use the self-watering containers for my indoor tropical plants as well and they work great. I guess my main mistake too was planting the caudex too deep while in that self watering container. I find the cycad very thirsty in our very dry area, so I thought the self watering container will help it. Oh well..just glad it came back now, my little cycad has forgiven me.
