I have it installed in a fairly deep wide pot. I have it sitting on my deck in the bald open sun. I have been careful not to water it too frequently, only when the soil looks like it could use some moisture. I have been infusing soil microbial flora into the container garden, which includes the Salvia pots, through applications of either worm castings tea or regular compost tea made from my own compost and worm bin. The Salvia plants seem to like it.

This cardiophylla plant is cranking out the flowers now. I wish it would produce seeds. I have not seen a single seed develop.
