I guess everyone has their own ways. The way I go is; I use those take home containers with the clear plastic lids. I use a regular potting soil mix with 50 % sand. The lay the seeds on top. The soil is moist not wet. Lightly cover and keep in a warm spot even in darkness untill you see sprouts. Then all the light (but not direct sun) you can give them. Below is a try I did at some cactus seeds.
