Ok, I promised orchid pictures and here they are! First up is another look at Ascda. Pakchong Smile. All the flowers are open now. It's more purple than blue, unlike the picture. Not sure why my camera can't figure out the difference between purple and blue.
Next up is Pot. Hisako Akatsuka 'Volcano Queen' x C. Chocolate Drop. This was the most expensive plant I bought at the auction back in July ($34). Back then it was covered in flowers; it's a pretty decent-sized plant. Not sure why it decided to throw another sheath just a few months later, but I'm glad it did!
In more good news, I saw that one of my dendrobiums has a bloom spike on it. None of my dendrobiums have ever rebloomed (although most aren't that old) so this is pretty exciting. This one is hanging on the back wall of the shade house so it was easy to overlook, but I happened to see it at just the right angle. Also, I checked on the orchids that live behind my bedroom window. These are the ones Dad sunburned while pressure-washing the house. They're also the ones I bought at Byrd's going out of business sale. That's why they don't live in the shade house - I ran out of room because I went crazy at the sale! Well, anyway two of them are going to bloom! One has buds that have just broken the sheath and the other has a swollen sheath where you can see the buds bulging underneath. Now, let's just pray we don't have any crazy, early frosts!
