Informal, sprawling, old fashioned, and self seeding annuals are a mainstay of the Cottage Garden. There are many that I dearly love, including Poppies, Nigella, Chinese Forget me not, Touch me not, and Four O'clock, but I think my very favorite is Larkspur.
