I didn't catch that before when you mentioned seeing purple buds. It seems early for Miss Kim to be showing color. It usually follows the French ones in bloom time. Try one of the hybrids with S. hycinthiflora in it. http://www.google.com/imgres?i...

It is possible to get a French lilac to grow here, but it's not easy.
